Make the rain look good on you

I have a bit of a complicated social agenda for tonight, starting with standing in the rain for an hour or two, and then moving on to a relaxed but not dive-y bar. So what in the world can I wear that will keep me dry and cozy but not leave me looking like a bum off the street once I'm out for a drink?

The first key is rain boots -- I don't play around with the comfort of my toes. I'm always annoyed when I can't find recycled content rain boots. Surely someone must be making them!
