Doie nails the subdued tunic LBD

chartreuse chic

I've always been impressed with the construction and creativity of Doie Designs (here in Boston, they're carried by Envi.) But for some reason, I never found a design that got my heart racing and my blood pumping. It probably has something to do with my irrational fear of patterns -- I always think, will this match what I own? will I get bored of it? will I show up at a party and blend in the wallpaper? Silly fears, I know, but they always make me pause when it comes to committing to patterned clothing.

All that changed last week when founder Sara Kirsner sent me an email to remind me to check out her eco brand. Looking at the new Fall Line, I saw a ton of new pieces with her signature style -- Asian-inspired prints accenting hems, necklines and even elbows. Again, I thought, "Beautiful, but those patterns..." And then I saw this bamboo tunic dress.

First of all, the cut is just perfect right now -- flowy enough to evoke last season's girly dressy trend, sleek enough to stay away from last season's infantalizing trend, short enough to be uber sexy, loose enough to stay totally sophisticated. Then there's that pattern -- it doesn't scare away even the most avowed pattern fearer (me!) but is just that one extra touch to make this one LBD that won't be forgotten. Plus, notice how the arm sashes' position calls attention to your waist? That's right, an optical illusion that keeps things hour glassed without needing Spanx.

You could pull this one off with tights and flat boots at your office. But I say save it for heels and something (or someone!) really special.

Doie Sugarpine Dress $120.

Rock your fall coat

chartreuse chic

Obviously, this eco conversion won't fly with vegans. But if you're an ocassional antibiotic free meat consumer like myself, and you woke up dreading pulling out your heavy winter coat but also dreading the chill in the air, this simply gorgeous vegetable tanned leather bomber might just be your perfect fall coat.

My friend A owns a warm, tailored, brown leather coat that transitioned with her from college to work to grad school, always looking stylish and sexy with whatever outfit she was wearing underneath. I love how the brown leather here looks both earthy and a tad rock star, and the bomber shape will never go out of style. If you aren't against skin, this vegetable tanned leather bomber is one of the most beautiful investment pieces out there.

John Patrick Organic Vegetable-tanned Shrunken Jacket $895.

Layer things up with a little autumn goth

chartreuse chic

With the air getting crispy and the first plump pumpkins (and super warty gourds!) showing up at the farmer's markets here in Boston, I thought I'd celebrate by suggesting this goth-y yet comfy hand silk-screened tee by Bonbi Forest. Maybe I'll get this to make up for probably not having the time this year to make any of Martha's got-but-chic Halloween cut outs. Sigh. When I dream, sometimes I dream in Martha.

Bonbi Forest Home Time Tee $30. Found modishoppe while purusing the ads on the newly redesigned Design Sponge which is super beautiful and you should totally check out and be inspired by.

Look sharp even post-pie

You know what I love even more than the color of this jacket? It's that the casual, relaxed front is off-set by a perfectly tailored waist in the back. That means that even if you're having a bulge-y feeling day, you can look sleek and sexy from behind. Now, won't that come in handy post-Thanksgiving!

GET THE GREEN: Feral Childe Moto Jacket $280.

Rock out, Indie Queen

I can not even tell you how excited I am about the Rilo Kiley show tonight. Jenny Lewis has the most exquisite voice, totally kick ass style, and even though I know their latest album's a bit of a sell out, I'm totally sold.

Of course, you can't show up to an indie rock show looking Boston preppy, but this little get up would do the trick -- quirky small-designer blouse, high waisted organic pants, effortless handmade belt, bright funky vegan bag, and simply the cutest eco heels I've ever seen (seriously -- you simply must click on the link below and check them out close up.)

GET THE GREEN: Feral Childe Porter Top $140, Del Forte Willow Trouser $190, Hollyhawk Ring Leather Belt $65, Crystalyn Kae Cabaret Handbag $90, Terra Plana Vita Mary Jane $199.

L.A.M.B. does plaid, and so can you!

Sometimes I lust over L.A.M.B., and sometimes it just looks like costuming (well, of course.) But here's a hot trend that's actually wearable: plaid! Try it out in this adorable mini dress from Seana Gordon (wish I could find out more about her on the web, but she's clearly small and new.)

Seana Gordon Plaid Dress $170.

Brighten your night

Ooh, jewel toned flowy mini dresses... sigh. But instead of something from Shopbop, why not try this beauty made by Brooklyn artist Seana Gordon?

Seana Gordon Silk Bow Dress $240.

p.s. Send me your eco conversion wish list (stuff you love, but wish were more eco friendly) and I'll start looking for green alternatives. CHARTREUSE dot GIRL at GMAIL dot COM!
